Bulbous Nose/Pinched Nose Surgery

A bulbous nose, characterized by a blunt nasal tip and wide nostrils, can give a coarse and less refined impression. Excessively reducing the nasal tip to correct a bulbous nose may result in a pinched nose. A bulbous nose refers to a nose with a blunt, broad-looking tip due to thick skin or excess fat at the nasal tip. People with bulbous noses often also have thick, wide nostrils. A blunt and thick nasal tip can create a coarse, less refined impression, and because attention may be drawn to the nasal tip, it can easily become a source of insecurity. When the nasal tip is excessively and aggressively reduced to correct a bulbous nose, it may result in a pinched nose. To avoid a pinched appearance, bulbous nose correction should take into account the width and proportions of the nasal bridge and tip, as well as harmony with the overall face. Yerom Bulbous Nose/Pinched Nose Surgery Methods

For bulbous nose surgery, the surgical method should vary depending on the cause of the bulbous nose, such as excessively developed alar cartilage at the nasal tip, laterally flared cartilage, or excessive subcutaneous fat at the nasal tip. When the alar cartilage at the nasal tip is wide, part of the cartilage is removed to reduce its size and bring it toward the center. When the alar cartilage is flared laterally, both sides of the cartilage are brought together. When there is excessive fat at the nasal tip and thick skin tissue, the thick skin is reduced and fatty tissue at the nasal tip is removed to make the tip slimmer and more defined. However, when reducing the nasal tip to improve a bulbous nose, to avoid a pinched appearance, the nasal tip must not be made narrower than the nasal bridge.

Candidates for Bulbous Nose/Pinched Nose Surgery

The ideal angle between the nasal tip and nasal bridge is 45 degrees. In cases of an upturned nose or short nose, simply using an implant to raise the nose may make it appear even shorter and more upturned, making this a complex procedure that requires the skilled expertise of a board-certified plastic surgeon. Therefore, it is important to achieve a natural nasal line through an accurate diagnosis.
