Q. Can teenagers undergo LASIK surgery?
A. Just as height increases, the eyes also continue to grow. Since eye growth must be complete, it is safest to undergo surgery after becoming an adult, at age 18 or older. Surgery is commonly performed after the College Scholastic Ability Test. If there has been no change in prescription over six months while wearing glasses or contact lenses, surgery may be possible.
Q. Can I undergo LASIK if I have worn contact lenses for a long time?
A. The duration of contact lens wear does not affect whether surgery is possible or the surgical process. However, if long-term lens wear has caused an eye condition, the condition must be treated before surgery. Eligibility for surgery can be accurately determined through approximately 50 detailed examinations.
Q. Can I return home without a guardian after LASIK surgery?
A. Because vision usually recovers on the day of surgery, you may return home. However, tearing or eye pain may make it difficult to open your eyes from the day of surgery, so going home with a guardian can be more comfortable. Driving yourself is not permitted; we recommend using public transportation or a taxi.
Q. Are there any complications after LASIK surgery?
A. Like all other surgeries, vision correction procedures may involve complications. However, most are mild, do not seriously impair vision, and improve over time. Common complications that may occur after surgery include dry eye, nighttime glare, and halos, which generally improve to the preoperative condition after about six months.
Q. I live outside Seoul. I would like to have LASIK surgery in Seoul. How often will I need to visit the hospital after surgery?
A. One advantage of LASIK surgery is rapid recovery to daily life. The interval and number of follow-up visits vary depending on the procedure, and we will adjust the schedule to minimize the need for frequent visits. Follow-up care can also be managed while receiving examinations at another eye clinic, so this is not a problem.
